REGULATIONS 2010 A. PIOBAIREACHD ON GREAT HIGHLAND BAGPIPE – GOLD MEDAL COMPETITION
First prizewinners in this Event at any former Gathering of the Northern Meeting excluded. Entry restricted to those already notified of their eligibility to compete. The competitions will be held under the Rules of the Piobaireachd Society. Competitors will submit EIGHT tunes of their own choice, ONE of which they will be asked to play. Entry restricted to those already notified of their eligibility to compete. Competitors will submit SIX tunes of their own choice, ONE of which they will be asked to play. Competitors submitted FOUR Marches, Strathspeys and Reels, and will be required to play ONE OF EACH – ONCE THROUGH. This competition will be played in reverse order. D. MARCH (Grade B) Winners of First Prize at former Gatherings of the Northern Meeting excluded. Entry restricted to those already notified of their eligibility to compete. Competitors must submit FOUR Marches, ONE of which they will be required to play – ONCE THROUGH. E. HORNPIPE AND JIG Open to Light Music Competitors graded A and above. Entry restricted to those already notified of their eligibility to compete. Competitors submitted TWO hornpipes and TWO jigs, and they will be required to play ONE OF EACH – ONCE THROUGH. The hornpipe will be played first. F. PIOBAIREACHD ON GREAT HIGHLAND BAGPIPE – CLASP COMPETITION Open only to winners of the Highland Society of London’s Gold Medal at a former Gathering at Oban or Inverness. The competition will be held under the Rules of the Piobaireachd Society. Competitors will submit four pairs from the list below, one of which they will be required to play. Tunes may be played in any order. Prizes will be awarded for performance over the two tunes. 1. The Sister’s Lament PS 4 p109, K p41 and Nameless (Angus Mackay’s MS) PS 4 p111, K p42 2. The Battle of Glenshiel PS 4 p124 and A Glase PS 11 p320 3. Duncan MacRae of Kintail’s Lament PS 4 p121, K p40 and Nameless (Colin Campbell’s Canntaireachd MS) PS 4 p124, K p43 4. The Old Woman’s Lullaby PS 4 p113, K p39 and The Aged Warrior’s Sorrow PS 12 p360 5. Lament for Red Hector of the Battles PS 4 p111, K p42 and The Middling Spree PS 11 p322 6. The Park Piobaireachd No.1 PS 4 p113, K p46 and The Pretty Dirk PS 11 p318 7. Nameless Lament (MacArthur MS) PS 13 p420 or p421 but not p423 and Lament for the Bishop of Argyll PS 15 p509 8. Salute on the Birth of Rory Mor MacLeod PS 4 p121, K p38 and Left Hand PS 14 p489 Settings of these tunes different from those specified will be acceptable provided that the judges are advised in advance and provided with the music for the alternative setting(s) submitted. However, versions of these tunes with conventional taorluath and crunluath movements will not be acceptable. For the purpose of these competitions, only the first line of the urlar need be repeated at the end of each tune and this will be regarded as part of the performance. Altogether different tunes known by the same or similar names will not be accepted as alternatives. G. STRATHSPEY AND REEL (Grade B) Winners of First Prize at former Gatherings of the Northern Meeting excluded. Entry restricted to those already notified of their eligibility to compete. Competitors must submit FOUR Strathspeys and FOUR Reels and they will be required to play ONE OF EACH – ONCE THROUGH. H. MARCH STRATHSPEY, AND REEL Open only to former winners of the March, Strathspey and Reel “A” competition, and its predecessor competitions. Competitors will submit SIX Marches, Strathspeys and Reels, and will be required to play TWO different Marches, TWO different Strathspeys and TWO different Reels. I. DRESS AND DEPORTMENT This Competition will be judged from competitors in competitions “C”, “D” and “H”.
If a competitor fails to commence playing before or immediately after the switching on of the red light, he/she will be liable to disqualification. |
