REGULATIONS 2020

PIOBAIREACHD ON GREAT HIGHLAND BAGPIPE – CLASP COMPETITION

Open only to winners of the Highland Society of London’s Gold Medal at a previous Gathering at Argyllshire Gathering or Northern Meeting.
The competition will be held under the Rules of the Piobaireachd Society.

Competitors will submit SIX tunes from the list below, ONE of which they will be required to play.

PS = Piobaireachd Society Collection        K = Kilberry Book of Ceol Mor

* For the purposes of the Senior competitions this tune should be played with the inclusion of the optional 3rd line, as recorded in Piobaireachd Society Book 2

** For the purposes of the Senior competitions this tune should be played with the inclusion Donald MacDonald’s additional variation (singling and doubling), as recorded in Piobaireachd Society Book 3

Altogether different tunes known by the same or similar names will not be accepted as alternatives.

PIOBAIREACHD ON GREAT HIGHLAND BAGPIPE – GOLD MEDAL COMPETITION

First prizewinners in this Event at any former Gathering of the Northern Meeting excluded. Entry restricted to those already notified of their eligibility to compete. The competitions will be held under the Rules of the Piobaireachd Society.

Competitors will submit EIGHT tunes of their own choice, ONE of which they will be required to play.

PIOBAIREACHD ON GREAT HIGHLAND BAGPIPE – SILVER MEDAL COMPETITION

Entry restricted to those already notified of their eligibility to compete.

Competitors will submit SIX tunes of their own choice, ONE of which they will be required to play.

SETTINGS.

Competitors are not restricted to settings in the Piobaireachd Society Collection and Kilberry Book. Those who wish to play alternative settings should submit legible scores, indicating the origins of the settings, to competition organisers along with their tune selections.

 

MARCH STRATHSPEY, AND REEL
Open only to former winners of the March, Strathspey and Reel “A” competition, and its predecessor competitions.
Competitors to submit SIX Marches, Strathspeys and Reels, and will be required to play TWO different Marches, TWO different Strathspeys and TWO different Reels.

MARCH, STRATHSPEY & REEL (Grade A)

Competitors to submit SIX Marches, Strathspeys and Reels, and will be required to play ONE OF EACH – ONCE THROUGH.

MARCH STRATHSPEY AND REEL (Grade B)

Winners of First Prize at former Gatherings of the Northern Meeting excluded.
Entry restricted to those already notified of their eligibility to compete. Competitors to submit FOUR Marches, Strathspeys and Reels, and will be required to play ONEOF EACH – ONCE THROUGH.

HORNPIPE AND JIG

1. Hornpipe & Jig.

Open to FW MSR and A MSR Competitors.
Entry restricted to those already notified of their eligibility to compete. Competitors to submit TWO hornpipes and TWO jigs, and they will be required to play ONE OF EACH – ONCE THROUGH. The hornpipe will be played first.

  1. B Grade Hornpipe & Jig.

Open to B MSR Competitors graded B.
Entry restricted to those already notified of their eligibility to compete. Competitors to submit ONE hornpipe and ONE jig, and they will be required to play ONCE THROUGH. The hornpipe will be played first.

Tuning Times
Clasp 5 minutes
Gold and Silver Medals, Former Winners MSR and “A” MSR 4 minutes
‘B’ MSR 3 minute
Hornpipe & Jig 2 minutes

If a competitor fails to commence playing before or immediately after the switching on of the red light, he/she will be liable to disqualification.
